VANCOUVER WINS 5-3 IN GAME 1 AGAINST CHICAGO
After over a week of waiting, the Vancouver Canucks had no more patience as they were pumped up and excited for a tough series against the Chicago Blackhawks who eliminated the Calgary Flames with the series of 4-2.
The contest heated up in the first period as Mats Sundin made a spectacular pass across to Pavol Demitra to open the scoring 1-0. Later in the 2nd Period Henrik Sedin scores a goal in the slot from a great pass from his brother Daniel Sedin to make things 2-0. Later on, Ryan Kesler netted a goal from a excellent pass from Kyle Wellwood from behind the net to make the game 3-0, but after after the 2nd Intermission, Chicago was great at coming back. The Blackhawks scored 3 unanswered goals as one of the goals were on the powerplay. Patrick Kane netted 2 goals as David Bolland scored the tying goal. But then later with less than 5 minutes to go in the 3rd Period, the Vancouver Canucks had a 4 on 1 rush as Kyle Wellwood was leading it. Mason Raymond passes the puck across to Steve Bernier as he was stopped, but then on the rebound was Sami Salo depositing it in the empty net. Ryan Johnson later after netted an empty netter to make the contest 5-3.
Despite blowing the 3 goal lead, the Vancouver Canucks managed to escape Game 1 with a 5-3 victory and a 1-0 series lead.
